From the Desk of Ayodele – February

Hey good people!  I hope this note finds you all well.  The other day, I was scrolling through my feed on LinkedIn and scrolling past the image below.  It stopped my scroll in its tracks. The title struck a chord with me.

For the last 6 or 7 years, I have been working to move away from using violent language. I feel like this all began when a friend and colleague, Dr. Folami Prescott-Adams was slowly trying to get me to move away from saying “kill two birds with one stone.” To be honest, I didn’t know what the big deal was, but out of respect for her, I began to become more self aware, attempting to catch myself before the words came out of my mouth.  The interesting part is that the saying was so ingrained in my speak, that I had a hard time trying to figure out what to say instead.  Well, using the helpful guide above, I now have an alternative – “Feed two birds with one scone.” Now to be honest, I am not confident that that will be the replacement, but it gives me something to consider.

While preparing this blog, I came across the following quote:

“Language creates reality. Words have power. Speak always to create joy.” Deepak Chopra

Below are the top 5 saying I am going to work on shifting to?

  • We have to choose our opportunities
  • Who is the priority/primary audience?
  • I won’t avoid it any longer
  • I didn’t do my best
  • Let’s not focus on that anymore

What saying would you like to begin adopting?
