I was too afraid to lead, so I quit.

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.”

John Maxwell

At the end of my 16th year as a classroom teacher, I quit. Why? Well…while I think the school administration at the time could have done more to mentor me as a teacher leader, I now know that I was more “afraid” than anything else. I was afraid that I wasn’t smart enough. I was afraid that I didn’t have the skills or know-how to lead a team of adults. I was afraid that I would not be able to work with colleagues that didn’t see/view instruction the way I did.

I share more in the latest episode of Ayodele Speaks and what I am doing to build confidence and leadership skills in Black men teachers, educators and community leaders through my work leading www.bmestalk.com.
