Summer is now in full swing.  Some of y’all are working on degrees and certifications. Some of y’all are investing time in your side hustle.  While others are letting the days come as they may.  Wherever you find yourself, I hope you are crushin’ your goals. 

Summer time is a great time to re-energize our (or adopt new) personal wellness practices.  Why? It’s typically a time when practicing self-care is more accepted. One doesn’t have to feel guilty about taking time to slow down and check in with oneself.  So, this month I offer the personal wellness practice of Self Kindness. 

Personal Wellness: Self Kindness

What is it? 

Be warm and understanding toward oneself when suffering, failing, or feeling inadequate, rather than ignoring the pain or beating oneself up with self-criticism. 

How does it apply to Black Male Educators? 

With so many decisions to make every day, it is inevitable that, despite best efforts, we will inevitably make mistakes and fail. 

Why might Black Male Educators use this practice?

By practicing accepting BOTH the “wins and losses” in life, we can decrease stress, frustration and self-criticism.
