Back-to-school Quote:

“Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child and one teacher can change the world.” – Malala Yousafzai

It is back-to-school season! That’s right, I said it! And back to school school time impacts everyone.  Whether you are a school based educator or not, back-to-school impacts aspects of our daily lives. School buses are back on the streets.  Families and caregivers are crisscrossing the city dropping children off at school. People are packed into Target buying up all the lunch-sized snacks.  August is just a busy time!  And this means that stress levels are going up.  Mine our, just typing these words.

I talk more about school-based educator stress and Common Humanity in this month’s video

So, there is no better time than now to introduce the personal wellness practice of Common Humanity.

Personal Wellness: Common Humanity

What is it?

Process of recognizing that suffering and feelings of personal inadequacy is part of the shared human experience.

How does it apply to Black Male Educators?

We are expected to put on a brave face and ignore their emotions, resulting in the need to always project that they have everything under control.

Why might Black Male Educators use this practice?

Deepening our understanding of common humanity, invites us to an understanding that we ALL experience disappointment and failure rather than it being something that happens to “me” alone.
